Dry savannah landscapes, baobab forests, and elephant herds are all part of the splendor of the Tarangire National Park. This park is a quiet, wooded savannah where a rich variety of thriving fauna, including tree-climbing lions, can be spotted from open vehicles. Add African bush elephants, plains zebras, Masai giraffes, impalas, blue wildebeest, buffaloes, bush pigs, common elands, common waterbucks, and Tarangire is a quadruped-rich environment.
Birds can also be found on many of the wetter banks of the Tarangire River. Keep an eye out for brilliantly-coloured parakeets known as lovebirds. In the north of Tarangire National Park, the majestic baobab trees are among the finest examples of this species anywhere. This Tanzania Safari Destination is part of the northern safari circuit and is the sixth-largest park. It boasts excellent wildlife densities and a range of great accommodation options. The vast grasslands and Baobab trees create a rugged, 'Out of Africa' feel that's quite distinct amongst Tanzania's national parks.
This map of Tarangire National Park is your guide to its hidden treasures. It shows where baobabs tower, elephants gather, and the river winds through the land. Use it to trace your safari path, uncover must-see areas, and experience Tarangire’s landscapes and wildlife in a more personal way.
The Best Time to visit Tarangire National Park is during the dry season from June to October. These are the best months for wildlife due to migratory patterns, and the short grasses make game viewing even easier. To see the big herds of elephants, we recommend visiting towards the latter period of the dry season (September/October). November can be exceptionally affordable, as it is outside the peak season, but tends to remain relatively dry before the short rains arrive. The low season, from late November to May, is ideal for bird watching, as the area is lush and green.
June to October
In the dry season, the weather is beautiful and sunny. The wildlife is easier to spot, and animals migrate from all the surrounding areas into the park.
November to May
Due to the rain, the scenery is lovely and lush. The accommodation rates are lower as it is the low season. It’s also the primary bird-watching season.
Many people refer to Tarangire as the "home of elephants," but the park has much more to offer. Along the grasslands, zebras walk in stripes, wildebeest and gazelles browse in groups, and lions watch quietly from afar. Scary baboons and vervet monkeys inhabit the woods and cause trouble. Giraffes move like tall shadows. Spotted hyenas and jackals roam openly, and if you're lucky, you might see a leopard or a rare cheetah resting in the trees. For bird lovers, Tarangire is like heaven. There are more than 500 kinds of birds in the park, including majestic eagles, vultures that circle, and beautiful storks. Lovebirds with bright yellow collars add a splash of color to the trees.
On memorable morning and evening drives over Tarangire's plains, you'll see elephants, zebras, and lions.
You may see colorful lovebirds, flying eagles, and more than 500 other types of birds in marshes and woods.
Try it out, walking around Tarangire with specialists, looking for hidden animal corridors and natural mysteries.
At daybreak, float over the grasslands with baobab trees and view the animals from above.
There are many things to do at Tarangire National Park that will bring you closer to nature. On game drives, you can see elephants, zebras, and lions on broad plains. Birdwatchers will adore being able to view over 500 different kinds. You may see more of nature's nuances on walking safaris and picture outings. You may also take a hot air balloon ride above the park at sunrise, have a picnic under the baobabs, or meet people from the area. Tarangire is a destination of discovery and enduring memories, as every moment here is unique.
